About RPM

RPM (revenue per mille) is total estimated revenue per 1,000 views. Unlike CPM, RPM already reflects both what advertisers pay and YouTube's share. Niche RPMs vary widely, so treat presets as ballpark figures.

How YouTube revenue works

To earn from ads you need to join the YouTube Partner Program (roughly 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past year, or 10 million Shorts views). Revenue comes from ads shown on your videos, with YouTube generally keeping roughly half of ad revenue (the effective split is reflected in your RPM).

Only monetized views generate income — views with ad blockers or on un-monetized videos count for nothing. That's why two videos with similar view counts can earn very different amounts.

Frequently asked questions

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

It depends on your niche and audience. Finance/B2B channels can earn $10–$20+ RPM, while general entertainment often sits around $1–$4. This calculator helps you compare scenarios.

Do I get all of the RPM shown?

No. RPM already accounts for YouTube's revenue share and the fact that not all views are monetized, but ad blockers, low-ad-inventory regions and seasonal ad rates can still pull actual earnings below the estimate.
