Privacy Policy
How mQuickCalc handles your data, cookies and privacy — and the rights you have under the EU GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA/CPRA.
1. Who we are
mQuickCalc (the site at https://mquickcalc.com, together with finance.mquickcalc.com and health.mquickcalc.com) provides free online converters and calculators. This policy explains, in plain language, what data we handle, why, and the rights you have.
mQuickCalc is operated by Jim (Maoming, Guangdong, China) as an independent personal project; there is no registered company behind it. For any privacy question — or to exercise any right described below — contact us at [email protected].
2. Short version
We are privacy-first by design:
- Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. We do not see, collect, store or transmit the numbers you enter.
- We have no user accounts, no profiles, no email capture and no behaviour-based advertising as of the date of this policy.
- We set no tracking cookies and run no third-party analytics that can identify you today. If we ever add advertising or analytics partners, we will ask for your consent first.
- A single localStorage flag remembers whether you dismissed the cookie notice. It stays on your device.
3. Data we process
3.1 Values you type into a calculator
Inputs (a length, a weight, a price, a date) are processed by JavaScript in your browser only. They are never transmitted to us. Nothing we run reads or stores them.
3.2 Technical logs (hosting)
The sites are served through Cloudflare and a web host. Like virtually every website, the hosting infrastructure may record standard technical logs (IP address, user-agent, date/time, requested resource) to operate the service and protect it against abuse. We rely on the legitimate interest of keeping the site available and secure (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). These logs are retained only as long as necessary (typically a few days at the application layer; Cloudflare retains per its own policy) and are not combined with any other dataset to identify you.
3.3 Local storage and the cookie notice
When you dismiss our cookie notice we store a non-identifying flag (mqc-cookies) in your browser's localStorage so the notice is not shown again. It contains no personal data and never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
4. Cookies
We do not set advertising, analytics, social or other third-party cookies. The only mechanism we use is the localStorage preference described above. If we ever add a partner that sets cookies, we will (a) update this policy first, (b) show an appropriate consent choice with a way to decline, and (c) never set non-essential cookies before you consent — consistent with the ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR.
5. Advertising
We do not run advertising as of the date of this policy. If the sites are ever monetised through a third-party ad network (for example Google AdSense or another display-ad network), this section will be updated before any advertisement goes live, and the following commitments will apply:
- Prior consent. Before any non-essential cookies or similar technologies are set for personalised or behavioural advertising, we will ask for your consent through a clear consent banner (a consent-management platform). You will be able to accept or decline, choose granular categories, and change your choice at any time, with revocation as easy as granting.
- Who processes what. Ad networks act as independent controllers or processors for their own purposes and may set cookies and process device and usage signals (IP address, browser data) to serve, target, measure and cap ads. Their handling is governed by their own policies (for Google, see policies.google.com/privacy).
- Regional handling. For users in the EEA/UK we will rely on Google's consent requirements (including Consent Mode and restricted data processing) so no personalised advertising occurs without valid consent. For California we will honour CCPA/CPRA opt-outs and treat cross-context behavioural advertising as a potential "share" requiring an opt-out signal.
- No targeted advertising to children. We will not enable personalised advertising that targets children, and will mark the property appropriately under Google's and COPPA's rules if required.
- Your choices. Independently of the banner you may decline personalised ads via Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), YourOnlineChoices (EU), AboutAds.info (US) and the Network Advertising Initiative, or block cookies in your browser.
6. Legal bases (GDPR Art. 6)
- Legitimate interest — operating and securing the websites and their technical logs (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Consent — only where we ask for it, for example if non-essential cookies are ever introduced (Art. 6(1)(a)).
- We do not rely on "performance of a contract" or "legal obligation", because beyond the above we process no personal data about you.
7. International transfers
Cloudflare operates a global edge network, so responses may be served from data centres in the EU, the US and elsewhere. Cloudflare participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and provides Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EEA/UK. No personal data beyond the standard technical logs described above is affected.
8. Your rights (GDPR and UK GDPR)
To the extent we process any personal data about you — primarily technical logs — you have the right to:
- access a copy of your personal data;
- rectification of inaccurate data;
- erasure (the "right to be forgotten");
- restriction of processing;
- data portability;
- object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (your national data-protection authority, or in the UK the ICO).
Because we have no accounts and store no personal data, exercising these rights usually requires no action from us. If you believe technical logs relate to you, email [email protected] and we will assist within 30 days.
9. EU/UK users and our representative
mQuickCalc is operated from China and has no establishment in the European Union or the United Kingdom. We do not target our services specifically at the EEA or the UK, and we do not profile users there. Where GDPR Article 27 nonetheless applies to us, our nominated representative in the European Union is to be appointed, and their details will be published here before any advertising or analytics partner that profiles EEA users is introduced. In the meantime you may direct any request under Articles 15–22 — or any question about this policy — to [email protected], and we will respond within 30 days.
10. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information and have not done so in the preceding 12 months. We do not use your data for targeted advertising, so no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" opt-out is triggered. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. If we later enable advertising that could qualify as "selling" or "sharing" under the CCPA/CPRA, we will update this section before doing so and will honour opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control. To make a request, email [email protected].
11. Children's privacy
Our tools are general-purpose and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (US COPPA) or under 16 (EU). Because every calculation runs locally and we have no accounts, we do not knowingly collect data from minors at all.
12. Data retention
Technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operations (typically days). The localStorage flag is removed when you clear your browser's site data.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect legal or operational changes. The "Last updated" date below always reflects the current version, and material changes will be flagged on this page.
14. Contact
