How it works
Wavelength and frequency are inversely proportional, related by the wave speed formula: c = λf, where c is the speed of light (299,792,458 m/s in vacuum). Rearranged: λ = c/f and f = c/λ. Higher frequency = shorter wavelength, lower frequency = longer wavelength.
Units: wavelength in meters (m), centimeters (cm), millimeters (mm), or micrometers (µm). Frequency in hertz (Hz), gigahertz (GHz), terahertz (THz). Radio waves (100 MHz = 3 m) → microwaves (10 GHz = 3 cm) → infrared (10 THz = 30 µm) → visible light (400–700 THz) → UV → X-rays → gamma rays.
For sound waves, use speed of sound (~343 m/s in air at 20°C) instead of c. This tool uses speed of light (electromagnetic spectrum). Input either wavelength or frequency — both update in real time.
