GPA Calculator
Enter each course's grade and credits — we compute GPA instantly. Letters or percentages, your choice.
How GPA is calculated
GPA is a weighted average. Each course earns quality points = grade points × credits. Sum all quality points, divide by total credits. If you uncheck "Weight by credits", every course counts the same regardless of meeting hours — rare but some schools use unweighted GPA for class ranking.
Scales
Most US schools use 4.0 (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). Honors / AP programs may use 5.0 where an A earns 5 points. Enter either letter grades (A+, A, A−, B+, …) or raw percentages (92, 85, …) — we handle both.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good GPA?
Context matters. 3.5+ is competitive at most public US universities; elite schools see 3.8+. Grad school usually requires 3.0+. Anything above 3.0 keeps you in good standing.
Is A+ the same as A?
Many US schools treat A+ and A both as 4.0. Some international schools map A+ higher (4.3 on 4-point, 5.0 on 5-point). Use the scale that matches your institution.
Should I weight by credits?
Almost always yes. A 4-credit class should affect GPA twice as much as a 2-credit class.
Percentages vs letters?
Either works — type "87" or "B+" and we convert. Conversion follows standard US college curves; your school may use its own table.
Honors / AP?
Switch to the 5.0 scale for AP/honors classes. Regular classes stay on 4.0 — our 5.0 scale is for courses that earn a weighted maximum of 5.0.
