Area Converter
Flooring, property listings and land measurement all use different area units. Enter one value and see square feet, square meters, acres and hectares together, so you can compare a listing in one system with a quote in another.

How it works
Area units are the square of length units, which is why the conversion factors look large: a square foot is 0.3048 m squared, or 0.09290304 m². Converting area means multiplying by the square of the length factor, not the length factor itself — a mistake that produces answers off by an order of magnitude.
Square feet to square meters is the most common conversion in property: multiply square feet by 0.0929. A 1,000 ft² apartment is about 93 m². Going the other way, multiply square meters by 10.764.
The acre and the hectare are both land units from different systems. A hectare is 10,000 m² — a square 100 m on each side — while an acre is 4,046.86 m². One hectare is about 2.47 acres, so a hectare is roughly two and a half times an acre.
When measuring a room for flooring, remember that area scales with the square of linear error. If you measure a wall as 5.1 m when it is actually 5.0 m, the area is overstated by about 4%, not 2%. Always order a little extra material for cutting waste regardless.

Frequently asked questions
How many square feet are in a square meter?
One square meter is 10.7639 square feet. To convert, multiply square meters by 10.7639 — a 90 m² apartment is about 969 ft². To go the other way, multiply square feet by 0.0929.
What is the difference between an acre and a hectare?
A hectare is 10,000 m² and an acre is 4,046.86 m², so one hectare equals about 2.47 acres. Hectares are used in metric countries and in most scientific contexts; acres remain standard in US and UK property and land listings.
Why is the conversion factor not just the length factor?
Because area is two-dimensional. A foot is 0.3048 m, but a square foot is 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.0929 m². Using the length factor for an area conversion is the single most common error and throws the result off by more than 3×.
How do I convert acres to square feet?
One acre is exactly 43,560 square feet. Multiply acres by 43,560: a 2.5-acre plot is 108,900 ft², or about 1.01 hectares.
Should I add waste when ordering flooring?
Yes — typically 5–10% for straight layouts and up to 15% for diagonal or patterned installs. The converter gives you the exact area; it cannot account for cutting waste, board direction or room irregularities.
